US and Canada Unite for Climate Change Action
The US and Canada are committed to investing $420 million over 10 years to preserve and restore the Great Lakes.
Climate change extends beyond their shared land borders; it also encompasses water bodies, including lakes and rivers that separate both countries. The challenge involves addressing major airsheds where atmospheric loads of chemicals travel to reach water, affecting wildlife species.
Their common goal by 2050 is net-zero emissions. They are working closely to:
- Align policy solutions;
- Coordinate regulatory approaches;
- Build resilience to climate impacts.
Their cooperation is essential, especially considering their extensive trade. In fact, Canada was the United States’ largest trading partner in goods and services. In 2022 alone, $3.4 billion worth of goods and services crossed the border each day.
Beyond their privileged relationship, Canada and the US are taking global issues to heart, and by joining forces, they are strengthening their efforts to fight against climate change.
